Last weekend we visited Vancouver BC for the last of their 4 week chocolate festival. It was a dark and rainy weekend which made for great weather to drink chocolate! This is the third year we’ve enjoyed this event and it’s clearly our favorite.
In 1918, Gustav Von Mink was fervishly planting the last rows of his crops before his wife gave birth to their second child. But, the day’s events would take a different turn that evening when representatives of the Czar’s security force rode onto the Mink property. They informed Mink that he had three days to pack up his farm, his life, and his growing family and leave. As it turned out, the Czar was taking possession of the Mink family’s property.
In January, we found out that Vancouver, British Columbia, holds a Hot Chocolate Festival. This is something we had to experience, so we ventured north for a fun weekend of hot chocolate sampling. Here is what we discovered:
Our first stop was at Cocoa Nymph in the Kitsialano District. We ordered Hera’s Habit, and found it be to be a smooth milk chocolate explosion with a the wonderful taste of the malted milk balls. We also tried the Bachus’ Dream. It had a light chocolate flavor, and you could feel the consistency of the wine reduction compote. It was not super sweet.
