A rich and simple recipe that is made with ingredients you may already have in your kitchen. Do you have a craving? This can be made within 7 to 10 minutes.

Serves: 4 cups
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ⅓ cup boiling water
  • 3½ cups milk
  • ¾ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup half and half cream
  1. Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan.
  2. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn't scorch.
  3. Stir in 3½ cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil!
  4. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.
The better the ingredients the better the taste. I used Scharffen Berger unsweetened cocoa powder for a nice rich chocolate taste.
I also use my mini frother to make sure the ingredients mix together nicely and to give the drink a nice froth before serving.
